Our Commitments

DuPont is committed to being a responsible partner in addressing concerns about the health and environmental impacts of PFOA and PFAS. That’s why we fully support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) efforts to develop comprehensive, science-based guidelines for PFAS chemicals.

We are also re-examining our chemical management and stewardship practices to ensure that our choices reflect our core values. Living our core values is our commitment to our employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.

Our Commitments

Eliminate any remaining use of bio-persistent long-chain PFAS including PFOA and PFOS and honor all remediation commitments.

  • DuPont reaffirms our commitment to not make, use, or buy PFOA, PFOS or other long-chain PFAS in DuPont manufacturing operations.
  • We will eliminate the use of PFOA and PFOS in recently integrated operations (acquired from Dow) and firefighting foams used at our sites by the end of 2019 and in all future acquisitions.
  • We will continue to honor our remediation commitments.

Reduce use of all short-chain PFAS

  • We will eliminate short-chain PFAS in firefighting foams used at our sites by the end of 2021.
  • We support U.S. EPA and global regulatory efforts to develop science-based guidelines for PFAS and commit to meeting these requirements in our global operations.
  • DuPont is committed to searching for alternatives to PFAS used in our products and processes and expects our suppliers to do the same.

Share our proprietary technology to help or enable others and fund additional research to help others in their efforts to address this issue.

  • We will make our proprietary product stewardship software available – at no cost – to regulators, suppliers, customers, competitors and others seeking more sustainable chemistries.
  • Beginning in 2020, we will provide open-source access to our PFAS water treatment resin technologies and fund grants to universities and other research institutes for new, innovative PFAS remediation technologies.

Establish an advisory panel to review our use and handling of substances of concern.

  • Beginning in 2020, we will establish an advisory panel of internal and external experts to review our use and handling of substances of concern and will share our progress toward these commitments.
